Suffolk Superior Court judge rules in a decision involving control of the Demoulas supermarket chain.
September 17, 1997
Judge Maria Lopez finds that the side of the family led by Arthur T. Demoulas unfairly deprived the side led by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas. Lawyers for Arthur T. subsequently engage in an elaborate ruse in an effort to get Lopez’s former law clerk to say that the judge was biased in the case. After the clerk goes to the FBI, one of the lawyers is suspended from practicing law for three years and the other two are disbarred.
